Weekend Coffee Share: I’m Back!

If we were having coffee, as soon as you sat down, I would exclaim, “It’s so good to see you!”  It has been months since I’ve engaged in the virtual coffee shop world and am so glad to be back.  How have you been?  What is your drink of choice?  (I’ve been favoring iced lattes lately.)

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you all about how work has been going.   Since getting home, I’ve been doing field work for my dad on the farm.  It’s exhausting, spreading moldy bales under trees and spreading massive frost-protective blankets across strawberry fields, but I’m thankful for the opportunity.  Plus, I sleep very well at night!

If we were having coffee, you would know that I had the pleasure of meeting up with Britta yesterday!  Although we attended the same college, our paths have mostly crossed in the blogging universe.  It was great to sit down face-to-face!  She’s just as thoughtful and well-spoken in person as she is in writing.  We traded travel stories (she just got back from teaching English in Thailand), discussed the importance of history, and talked about what the future will bring.

If we were having coffee, I’d fill you in on my impending job hunt.  Right now, I’m applying for a couple of positions in my home community–mostly for the experience of putting myself out there.  I’m going to start searching in earnest in June, once our high school summer help has come.  The plan is to work mornings, then take a few afternoons off each week to dig through employment opportunities, revamp my resume, write cover letters, and submit applications.  The goal is to find something that will give me experience and help me start building my skill set before I pursue grad school in a few years.  To be honest, I’m a mixed bag of emotions when it comes to finding a job.  On the one hand, I’m really looking forward to starting life as an independent adult.  On the other, I’m nervous for all the change that is coming.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that it is sunny and beautiful outside.  It’s the perfect day to sit on a blanket in the back yard with a good book… so that’s where you’ll find me.

What would you share if we were having coffee?

Hello. It is very nice to meet you and I’m glad you have resumed your coffee chats. Aren’t they a great way to get to know fellow bloggers? It seems like you have been busy helping you dad and ironing out your future moves. What type of career are you interested in? It is funny that you and Britta were at the same college but only met because of your blogging. I’m off to explore the rest of your site. Looking forward to getting acquainted! 😊

Hi, Nancy! It’s good to meet you! I do love coffee chats–I’ve definitely missed being part of them! I’m looking to pursue a career in library science, although at the moment I just want a job that will help me build my skills. Thanks for stopping by! I look forward to getting to know you better!

All the best for the job hunt! I’m currently doing the same, only this is the first time I’ve found it so hard (I moved to a new country this year… ). It can be tough but I hope you can find something local and in the field you hope to pursue a career in 🙂 x

Thank you, Frankie! I haven’t found anything yet, but have made some really useful connections. It must be so hard to move to a new country and find work–best of luck with your own search! 🙂
