If we were having coffee, we’d be taking it to-go because the weather has been far too beautiful to spend the day cooped up in a coffee shop. We’d be strolling on a path through the woods, going out of our way as we talked to step on particularly crunchy leaves. The fall colors are turning and we’d be lost in a sea of red and orange and gold. Isn’t it crazy how fast this fall is going by? It’s already October!
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I’ve been seriously overstimulated the past few days. I think part of the problem is that I’ve been spending too much time in fantasy worlds. On work days, I spend two hours in the car listening to audiobooks. At home, I either read or watch TV. Because I work in a library, I’m constantly figuring out what world to enter next. (It’s gotten to the point where I have at least one book coming via interlibrary delivery every week for the next three months.)
Then, a couple hours before closing last night, a guy donated four tubs of fantasy novels to the library. FOUR TUBS. THAT IS ALMOST 300 BOOKS. I spent the rest of yesterday and most of today sorting through them, deciding which books to add to the general collection, which to add to our uncataloged paperback section, and which to put on the sale rack. (And yes, I did make a donation to the sale rack and brought some home. I have no self control when it comes to fantasy novels.) It was fun work, but definitely added to my sensory overload.
Because of feeling overstimulated, I’ve been really restless. I’ll bounce rapidly from one little task to another–cooking, cleaning, lavishing love on my cat, etc. When I actually sit down to relax, though, I can’t focus on anything. I try to read and, within minutes, am scrolling through my Facebook feed on my phone. I’ve become super unproductive, which is frustrating.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I went shopping after work today and it was glorious. Sometimes, after a busy week, you just need to buy things. My bank account is not very happy with me in lieu of my purchases, but it was worth it. I binged on fall-themed scented candles, new workout capris, and a tartan blanket scarf that makes me feel like I’m a character in Outlander. I also got some work dresses at Goodwill and pieced together an EPIC Halloween costume. (You’re going to have to wait until the end of the month to find out who I’m dressing up as, though.)
If we were having coffee, you would know that I’m spending my days off working. Apple season is at it’s peak and my parents are so busy keeping up with the crowds that they’re barely eating and sleeping. (Seriously. My 62 year old dad stayed up until 2 AM the other night getting the pumpkin harvest ready for the weekend.) I’m working in the sales room for the next couple of days to help things stay afloat. I’m not that excited for it… but I really shouldn’t complain, given the amount of work the rest of our staff is putting in.
If we were having coffee, I’d now turn things over to you. How was your week? What would you share over coffee?
