Weekend Coffee Share: Fall is in Full Swing

If we were having coffee, we’d be wrapped up in sweaters and scarves wandering through the woods with no clear destination.  We’d look up into the golden and red leaves and let out a long, contented sigh.  Fall is at it’s most beautiful point here in Minnesota and I am loving every minute of it.

Walking in our woods last weekend

If we were having coffee, I’d apologize for being absent from the blogosphere.  Today is my first full day off in three weeks–although I may have to go over and help give staff lunch breaks if the orchard is busy.  Between working full time at the library and helping out at the family apple farm, free time has been sparse.  When I DO have time to relax, the last thing on my mind has been writing.  Which is okay.  I miss you all, but sometimes you just need to step away from things if you don’t have the energy.  I’m hoping to give blogging more attention when things settle down–and this includes finally updating my WordPress account to premium, getting my own domain, and customizing my site.

If we were having coffee, I’d fill you in on how things have been at the library.  I’m finally remembering the names of the regulars and am able to engage them in meaningful conversation.  To the lady whose four kids were all sick at the same time, I ask how they’re doing.  To the family who recently moved to the area and is looking for a house, I ask how the search is going.  To the lady who loves murder mysteries who comes in three times a week to read the paper, I ask if she’s watched anything good lately.

My embroidery project from the porcupine quillwork event.  Materials: birch bark and dyed porcupine quills

Although people repeatedly drive me crazy at work (for example, I’m getting sick of listening to old white men complain about computers), the people are what I love most about the job.

I’ve started doing programming as well.  Last weekend, we had a local nature center lead a workshop on using porcupine quills for embroidery.  They even brought a live porcupine!  The event was sparsely attended, but everyone there had a wonderful time.

Every Friday this month, I’m doing Storytime for preschoolers.  Again, attendance hasn’t been high, but I love it.  I get paid to read books to adorable little kids!

img_4564If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I got to see one of my favorite bands in concert this week.  The Head and the Heart played a sold-out show at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.  A friend and I bought our tickets in July to make sure we got seats.  I got off work at five, drove the hour and a half to the cities, and met my friend just in time for the show.  I’ve seen the band live before and they did not disappoint!

If we were having coffee, I’d now turn things over to you.  How have you been?  Anything interesting happen this week?  What would you share over coffee?

A Fall walk sounds fantastic – I’ll have to make sure I make the time to get one in this season.. I just recently discovered our local library, they have fantastic programs going on! How cool to see a porcupine!

I wish my health would allow walks, I can take short ones. The fall colors are beautiful. There has been a lot of wind today, but the sun is out.. Have pleasant week.

The colors are beautiful where you are! We haven’t gotten to that point yet here in NJ. Who knew you could make art with porcupine quills?! That’s really cool. My kids loved story time at the library when they were little. What a great gift you’re giving those little ones. Have you read a book called “Owl Moon?” It is one of my favorites and would be great for story time.

Glad things are going well for you. A fall walk sounds lovely. I can’t wait to go on some. It’s finally getting cooler here but the leaves haven’t quite turned yet. How exciting that you’re planning to take the next step and buy your domain. I hope to do the same once I have an income.

The porcupine piece is really fine. What a fun art to study. I look forward to seeing more in the future. Thanks for coffee.
