If we were having coffee, we’d be in my local coffee shop again, which has become a bit of a refuge for me on Sundays. I’d be wrapped in a cozy sweater sipping my usual mocha and smiling sleepily at you.
How am I doing? At the moment, I’m really tired and in a bit of pain… I’m recovering from yesterday’s adventures.
Short version: I got up at 6:30 AM, went to work, hiked 7.5 miles, went white water rafting, and got home at 11:30 PM. It was an absolute blast, but my body is definitely in recovery.
Long version: You see, a friend invited me to go white water rafting yesterday evening. The location is two hours away and the town I work in is right in the middle of that route. It didn’t make sense to drive an hour home only to drive two hours again, so I spent my afternoon at a state park. The park was beautiful–featuring a river with roaring rapids and endless woods where spring has only just begun to visit. Stupidly, I decided to take the longest hike possible. Three miles in, I realized I had bitten off more than I could chew, but it was too late to go back… so I powered through.
White water rafting was really, really fun. The river is really high and fast this time of year, so we were able to hit lots of great rapids. Our guides were wonderful and I felt safe the whole time. We saw a bear along the river and three bald eagles. The sun was beginning to set, so the woods were absolutely beautiful. We took a few stops on some islands, explored the terrains, and peppered the guides with questions about their adventures.
May is shaping up to be a very busy month! Between hanging out with friends, weddings, and planning a big road trip for the end of the month, my weekends are completely booked between now and early June. I’m looking forward to all the activities and spending quality time with people I love. But, I will admit, my not-so-inner introvert is a bit wary at being so busy.
It’s been a bit of an icky week at work due to run-ins with hard-to-handle library patrons. At work, I strive to be pleasant and patient and pride myself on good customer service. It takes a LOT to get under my skin. And, oh boy, were people getting under my skin this week.
I had to get after people for using inappropriate language in the library, only to be met with blank stares. (There are kids around, for goodness sake, don’t drop the F-bomb.) I had to ward off awkward compliments from a creepy guy lacking the social skills to pick up on my flat go-away-before-I-kill-you tone. I ended up telling him that his comments were inappropriate and had to deal with his overbearing apologies. I had to deal with him for half an hour until closing time meant I could force him to leave. I also had to write an incident report and call the police after someone poured soda in the book drop. Thankfully, it was empty and no library materials were damaged. An hour after the soda incident, I caught the culprits, who had returned to put Cheetos and thumb tacks in. I was able to give them a good scolding. When I arrived at work Saturday morning, though, I found the book drop full of rocks. UGH.
On the plus side, a bunch of books I’ve been looking forward to were released this week… which cheers me up considerably. There’s no better way to lift my mood than getting lost in a good book.
Anyways, that’s all I’ve got this week. What have you been up to? How is life? What would you share over coffee?
