Welcome to Keep Your Feet! If you’ve stumbled across this page, you’re clearly poking around to see what I’m all about. Before I get to that, I just want to let you know that I’m so glad you’re here.
This blog exists to tell a story. Specifically, my story.
My title comes from one of my favorite quotes:
“It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.” -J.R.R. Tolkien
The whole life-is-a-journey metaphor is a bit overdone in literature, but Tolkien really hits the nail on the head. Life is a road. It’s filled with the joy of adventure and discovery, but also comes with distractions that can carry you far from where you intend to travel. If you don’t watch your step, you’ll get carried away.
In order to reach your destination, wherever that may be, you have to keep your feet.
The older I grow, the more I realize how transient this life is. Nothing is the same from one season to the next. The world is always changing, always moving, always expanding… and so am I.
I don’t know what my future has in store. It’s a vast world and I am so small. As I move forward, I need to hold fast to who I know that I am. I need to know that, when I look into the mirror, the me I see may be different, but it’s still me. I need to know that the road I’m on is leading somewhere.
When I blog, this is my lens. I write to know myself. I write to figure out where I’m going. And I write to have fun. I can’t promise what you will find here–although, really, I write a lot about books and adventures–but the unknown is part of the fun.
Let’s step onto the road and begin.
