Top Ten Favorite TV Shows

1.) The Office (American Version)

Every few years, I’m drawn back to this show.  It never ceases to be funny–I recently rewatched the “Diversity Day” episode from the first season and, despite the fact that I’ve seen the episode at least four times, was rolling on the floor laughing.  This show is just so funny–the characters are enjoyable, maddening, and consistent.  Also, Jim and Pam will forever be my ultimate TV OTP.

2.) Downton Abbey

Yes, the show was at it’s best in it’s first two seasons.  Yes, I’m one of the troopers who held out until the very end.  This show is everything I love about British period dramas–it addresses and explores historical social issues with a healthy dose of romance.  Plus, it’s just so pretty.  The sets, the costumes, everything is lavish and gorgeous.  One thing I also enjoy is that it fully develops almost every single character–using subtleties to show, not tell.  And then there’s Maggie Smith, who is one of the show’s gems. What do these things have in common?

Here’s a question for you.

My older brother

and Beowulf have in common?

They all showed up in my dream last night.  You know your English major is getting to you when you recite Old English to fictional characters and family while unconscious.

Sketchbook Corner 3

It’s been a few weeks, so time for another edition of Sketchbook Corner!

Class Doodles:

IMG_3299Because I have the tendency to draw pretty girls with pretty hair in the margins of my notebooks when professors are lecturing.

Sketchbook drawings:

I need to do something with my hands when sitting around for extended periods of time, such as while watching movies or sitting around with friends.  I’ve been re-watching The Office, so there’s some Jim & Pam (also known as one of the greatest t.v. romances of all time), as well as more pretty ladies with pretty hair.  (Can you sense a theme?)

Watercolors:

This past week, I was given a new set of paintbrushes!  I haven’t had the chance to use them yet, but I’m looking forward to giving them a shot.  As you can see, I’ve been experimenting with landscapes and hope to be expanding my horizons in that area in the future.

That concludes this edition of Sketchbook Corner!  I post one of these features every few weeks.  As soon as I have enough doodles and sketches to make a post, I do so.  The feature is still a work in progress, so bear with me as I find a style that fits.

Keeping my chin up

Stress levels continue to run high in College Land.  No, not to the extent where the raging College Monster attacks, but I’m definitely burning out and doing so fast.  However, I have compiled a list of things to help keep my chin up.

1. It is Thursday.

Tomorrow is Friday.  Which means it’s the weekend.  Lots of homework, but no class!

2. Rewatching The Office

I’ve seen the first few seasons more times than I can count, but they never cease to be absolutely wonderful.

3. Mother is Coming

On Sunday, my mom is making the 3.5 hour drive to visit me in Morris.  We have a fun day out planned, including shopping, exploring Alexandria, and a nice dinner.  It’ll be good to spend time with her and get out of this tiny town.

4. My Birthday

It’s on Monday, which is exciting!

5. The new Into the Woods trailer

Not going to lie, I’m a bit skeptical about this one. As fabulous as Meryl Streep is, she’s no Bernadette Peters.  But it looks absolutely beautiful!

6. Pudding.

Am I going to eat pudding in the near future?  Probably not.  But the thought of it always makes me feel better.
